Davis Vision, Visionworks and Transitions Optical Promote Healthy Vision and Reading to Charlotte Area Children
Salvation Army Boys and Girls Clubs will receive free vision care and visit from Bess the Book Bus
PLAINVIEW, N.Y., Sept. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Davis Vision and sister company Visionworks are partnering with Transitions Optical and Bess the Book Bus to provide free vision care and books to members of the Salvation Army Boys and Girls Clubs in Charlotte, North Carolina next week.
Davis Vision and Visionworks will offer free vision screenings from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 13, at the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Charlotte on 940 Marsh Road, and from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 14, at the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Charlotte on 2901 Milton Road. Children needing further services will receive vouchers for a free comprehensive eye exam and eyewear, fitted with Transitions® lenses, from select Visionworks stores in the Charlotte area.
The free vision care is provided through Davis Vision's national community outreach program, Focus on America® . This year, the program is also spotlighting vision and literacy to increase awareness of the importance of a routine eye exam for children who are reading-ready. Bess the Book Bus, a mobile literacy unit, is teaming up with Davis Vision and Transitions Optical at select screenings to educate families about the connection between healthy vision and reading. Bess the Book Bus will be at each of the vision screening events in Charlotte, hosting tours of the bus, reading stories, and providing new books for children.
In 2011, 26 of Davis Vision's 52 free vision screenings will be held in libraries across the country.
On average, one in four children has an undetected vision problem that can interfere with the ability to read and learn. Proper eye care and eyewear are important tools for success in the classroom and in everyday life. During a child's first 12 years, visual learning accounts for 80 percent of the learning process. This is why it is so important to include a regular eye exam as part of a child's back-to-school checklist. The ability to achieve healthy sight is not always in reach for everyone. Davis Vision and Transitions Optical work together to offer accessibility to vision care services for those in need.
