David J. Firstenberg Takes Helm of Canal Insurance

GREENVILLE, S.C., Sept. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Lanse Crane, Chairman of the Board of Canal Insurance Company, announced that David J. Firstenberg will join Canal on October 11 as President and Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Firstenberg succeeds John Pollock, who has served as interim CEO since the retirement of Charles M. "Chuck" Timmons, Jr. in December 2009. Mr. Pollock will continue to serve as a Director of Canal.

Mr. Firstenberg has more than 30 years experience in the insurance industry and has served in executive positions at One Beacon Insurance Group, Zenith National and Chubb. Until taking the position at Canal, he was President, Specialty Property and Surety for The Hanover Insurance Group, Inc., in Worcester, Massachusetts.
