OAKLAND, Calif., May 8, 2017 /PRNewswire/-- David J. Barger, a longtime leader in the aviation transportation industry, has been named to the Boards of Directors for Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, Inc. and Hospitals – known as Kaiser Permanente.
Barger is a partner of Connor Capital Transportation Opportunities, a transportation investment fund based in Santa Barbara, California. He retired as CEO of JetBlue Airways early in 2015, serving as president and COO from the founding of the company in 1998. His career also includes key roles from 1981 to 1998 with Continental Airlines and New York Air.

During his aviation career, Barger was a board member at Airlines for America and the International Air Transportation Association, and chaired the NextGen Advisory Committee in Washington, D.C.
In recognition of his more than 30 years in the industry, Barger was awarded the 2016 L. Welch Pogue Lifetime Achievement Award by the International Aviation Club. He also is committed to the community, serving on the board of Arnie's Army Charitable Foundation – Arnold Palmer's legacy non-profit public foundation – and PENCIL, a New York-based educational non-profit creating innovative and impactful models of ongoing collaboration between business and public schools. He recently retired from the Flight Safety Foundation board of governors after 15 years of service.
Barger is an alumnus of the University of Michigan, where he serves on the Literature, Science and the Arts Dean's Advisory Council and is a member of the Organizational Studies Advisory Committee. He endowed the Barger Leadership Institute, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. The organization provides leadership access opportunities to undergraduates outside the classroom in various settings.
