David Herbert joins Avison Young in Chicago
Herbert becomes a Principal, adds capital markets and transaction advisory expertise; Clark Evans and Michael Crenna also join
CHICAGO, Feb. 3, 2015 /PRNewswire/ - Danny Nikitas, Avison Young Principal and Managing Director of the company's Chicago office, announced today the strategic hiring of industry veteran David Herbert and rising young real estate professionals Clark Evans and Michael Crenna.
Effective immediately, Herbert becomes a Principal while Evans will serve as a Senior Associate and Crenna as an Associate, based in the Chicago office. All three join Avison Young from DTZ in Chicago, where Herbert was a Senior Vice-President, Evans a Senior Associate and Crenna an Associate.
In their new roles, Herbert will focus on advising corporate users on all aspects of real estate solutions, including capital markets services. Evans will be responsible for cultivating new business for Avison Young in the Chicago area and nationally, performing market research and conducting financial analysis; while Crenna will continue with his business development role for the team, concentrating on the downtown Chicago market with a focus on media and technology companies.
"We're delighted to have David join us in Chicago to play a leading role as we expand our presence locally and nationally," comments Nikitas. "David is a highly regarded commercial real estate veteran who will add both capital markets and transaction advisory expertise to our Chicago operations. His versatile background and skill set will have a positive impact on the total package of real estate advisory services that Avison Young can offer to our clients here and across the U.S. He is a great addition to the Chicago team and highly respected in the local and national real estate communities."
Nikitas continues: "Clark is an up-and-coming professional whose research and analysis will be vital to clients as the U.S. continues to recover from the Great Recession. He will also play a critical role in aligning clients' real estate needs with their business strategies. Michael has really proven himself on the business development side of the business in a short period. As he grows and develops, he will be one of the rising stars of the firm."
Avison Young opened its first U.S. office in Chicago in January 2009 and has expanded steadily in the local marketplace and Midwest region since then. With the three additions, says Nikitas, the firm is poised to further expand its footprint in Chicago and provide a higher level of service to clients nationally and internationally.
Herbert brings more than 15 years of real estate advisory experience to Avison Young, having completed in excess of 200 sales and leasing transactions. He has been involved in all aspects of commercial real estate, including corporate lease acquisitions and dispositions, build-to-suit projects, building purchase and sale projects, distressed assets/notes, strategic planning, financial analysis and consulting. As a Senior Vice-President in DTZ's Chicago office from 2010 to 2015, he focused on both local and national pursuits, concentrating on the financial services/private equity sectors. Notable clients have included: Bank of Ireland, Cell Trak, Chicago Underwriting Group, National Resource Defense Council, Innerworkings, International Commercial Bank of China and Johnson Publishing.
Prior to joining DTZ, Herbert worked in investment banking in New York on the private-equity coverage side of the business with a focus on real estate. His concentration was on public and private financial sponsored leverage buyouts, recapitalizations, stapled financings and various advisory projects and corporate situations. He has worked on such complex deals as the LBO/whole business securitization of Dunkin' Brands; acquisition of HQ Global Workplaces by the Regus Group; the buyouts of Sheridan Healthcare, Travel Centers of America and Clear Channel Communication; and the sale of a portfolio of hotel assets for Starwood Hotels.
Herbert holds a Bachelor of Science in real estate finance and development from Cornell University's School of Hotel Administration and an MBA in finance and accounting from the University of Chicago's Booth School of Business.
"I am very excited to be joining the Avison Young family and look forward to contributing to the company's growing success," states Herbert. "The Principal-led, collaborative culture and the ability to have ownership in such a rapidly growing full-service firm not only provides the right fit for Clark, Michael and myself, but also for our current and future clients' needs. Furthermore, Avison Young has become the trending real estate firm over the past few years, continuing to recruit top talent while expanding in North America and, now, Europe. I look forward to continuing my real estate career at Avison Young."
Evans brings three years of commercial real estate experience to Avison Young, primarily in representing the needs of local and national office tenants. As a Senior Associate at DTZ, he focused on developing new business opportunities and assisting clients with lease acquisitions. Evans holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from the University of Michigan.
As an Associate at DTZ, Crenna was responsible for new business development and consulted with C-level decision-makers in developing efficient commercial real estate strategies. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Business degree in marketing from Indiana University's Kelley School of Business.
