David D. Teuscher, MD, becomes president of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons

LAS VEGAS, March 26, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Texas orthopaedic surgeon David D. Teuscher, MD, became president of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) Board of Directors today at the organization's annual meeting.

Dr. Teuscher is a partner and past president of the Beaumont Bone & Joint Institute. He also serves as a team physician for Lamar University's NCAA Division I athletic teams. After earning his bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and medical degree from the University of Texas Medical School in San Antonio, Texas, Dr. Teuscher completed an internship and residency at the Brooke Army Medical Center at Fort Sam Houston, in San Antonio, Texas.

Dr. Teuscher served in U.S. Army operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, and completed 13 years of military service as the chief of surgery at Fort Sill in Oklahoma. He has been in the private practice of orthopaedic surgery with a specialty interest in sports medicine since 1993.

He has long been an active member of AAOS, serving on the Board of Directors and as chair of the Board of Councilors from 2011 to 2012. A 2004 AAOS Leadership Fellow, he has led and served on numerous Academy project teams and committees. Dr. Teuscher also is the past president of the Texas Orthopaedic Association and the Jefferson County Medical Society, and serves on the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and the State Bar of Texas Board of Directors.

Earlier this year, the Academy opened a new state-of-the-art Orthopaedic Learning Center near Chicago. Dr. Teuscher lives in Beaumont, Texas with his wife, Connie. He has two sons, Brandon and Derek.
