"Commissioner Cohen is a recognized visionary on matters of intelligence, geopolitics, and security," said Ergo's CEO, R.P. Eddy. "With the Commissioner's active involvement in our work, Ergo will be able to deliver even more nuanced assessments and forecasts of the global risks faced by our clients."
"Having worked at the CIA and the NYPD for nearly five decades, I know good intelligence products when I see them. The commercial intelligence Ergo delivers is second to none; it is clear why so many clients rely on Ergo when making important business decisions," Mr. Cohen said. "I'm very pleased to be part of this impressive team."
Mr. Cohen spent 35 years at the CIA, where he is the only person in the history of the agency to hold one of the top two positions in both the Directorate of Intelligence (1991-95) and the Directorate of Operations (1995-97). During this period, he was also a member of the CIA Executive Committee, the body responsible with overseeing the strategic direction of the agency.
After leaving CIA, Mr. Cohen served as the NYPD's Deputy Commissioner for Intelligence from 2002-2013. The first person to hold the position, he designed and implemented programs that are widely credited with protecting New York City from terrorist attack after 9/11. Mr. Cohen greatly strengthened the NYPD's ability to combat terrorist threats by combining traditional and innovative intelligence and law enforcement techniques, including the creation of a foreign liaison program to provide the department with a global counterterrorism presence.
