Daughter/Father Sales Team Unite to Help Young Professionals
DES MOINES, Iowa, March 20, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- After five years of collaboration, Katie Bishop and her father, Doug Reichardt, recently completed their business novel, The Best Seller, published by Camerado Publishing. The sales book, written in a unique novel form, captures the importance of working together as a team, especially when many find themselves in situations where they are stuck in business and in life.
The lessons in the novel are incredibly timely given the COVID-19 virus circulating the world and forcing society out of normal routines and into new territory. As people socially distance themselves to flatten the curve of virus infection, they find themselves needing to transition to new roles and work in new ways. The Best Seller gives the readers hope, inspiration, and ideas developed from lessons learned in the past.
The foundational story in the book is about a real-life entrepreneur who owned Reichardt's. Bill Reichardt's well-known apparel store on 42nd Street in Des Moines served the local community for over 40 years. Many mid-westerners remember his tagline, "I'm Bill Reichardt and I own the store," but most people do not know the difficulties Bill was forced to face early in his business.
Entrepreneurs, business owners, salespeople, parents, employees, college students, and people at home are trying to figure out how to pivot in this uncertain time in the economy caused by this pandemic. The Best Seller shares lessons of those who have traveled similar roads and reminds the readers of our collective creativity and resourcefulness in the face of opposition.
"When Bill passed, the family whole-heartedly agreed we had to write something about him. We didn't know what the medium would be, but we all wanted to capture who he was for the next generation. It wasn't until my dad was kicking around the idea of a business book, that we decided we could share dad's principles in business alongside some of Bill's incredible stories of resilience," said co-author Katie Bishop.
The novel is written through the eyes of a young woman stumbling in her sales career and life. Along the way she meets several mentors, one is Bill Reichardt, who helps her to change her perspective. He teaches her that when situations knock you down, it's okay to pause and catch your breath, but you have to look up and get up.
The Best Seller is not only the culmination of years of hard teamwork, but a dream come true for both Doug and his daughter.
"One of my dreams has always been to work with my dad in some capacity. He has an uncanny ability to create solutions to problems that end up serving both parties even better than imagined. The Best Seller was initially drafted as a simple guide to sales, but it blossomed into a life and business playbook for building relationships," says Bishop.
"I've been fortunate to work with and mentor young people most of my life. Many suggested that I write a sales book about the Steps and Rules. So, now that the book is complete, early reviewers say it's a must-read for young professionals," says Reichardt. He adds, "The novel feels even more important now as we deal with COVID-19."
The Best Seller novel is now available from online retailers including Amazon.
