FLORHAM PARK, N.J., May 27, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- DataMotion, an experienced email encryption and health information service provider (HISP), today announced it has joined the National Association for Trusted Exchange (NATE). A primary goal for NATE, a not-for-profit association, is to enable consumers to securely access and share their health information with their family care providers, doctors and others that they trust, leading to improvements in engagement, safety and outcomes. Key to this is encouraging consumers to take control of their health - through secure communications with providers and access to their own health information - using smart devices and simple applications to request, view and store personal details.
DataMotion has established itself as a leading HISP, providing Direct Secure Messaging services between healthcare providers, electronic health records (EHR) software and health information exchanges. The company is now moving to broaden the reach of its service to benefit the rapidly growing patient engagement and population health markets. NATE membership will provide an opportunity for DataMotion to further promote and contribute to the patient centered care movement.
Both NATE and DataMotion are working to help mHealth developers implement their vision and meet the secure, compliant and interoperable aspects of health information exchange. DataMotion, for its part, offers secure messaging web services, APIs, SDKs and development sandbox environments that simplify and accelerate the integration of secure messaging into new applications and services.
"Many patients are unaware of how to get access to their health information," said Aaron Seib, the CEO of NATE. "Having access to their health data helps patients make better decisions, leading to better health outcomes. Secure communications between providers and patients means everyone can be up-to-speed on the latest details and ensure accuracy. DataMotion is well established in the secure exchange of protected health information and has demonstrated its ability to bring the same services and capabilities that they have offered in the provider domain to consumers. Using everything from patient portals to health and wellness apps, DataMotion makes it possible for consumers to receive, access and exchange their health data on the device of their choice."
"NATE is enabling the patient to have direct access to their health records, improving their health outcomes," said Bob Janacek, co-founder and chief technology officer of DataMotion. "Healthcare is making strong progress in adopting electronic communications - mainly between providers - but empowering the patient is the critical missing link. We're eager to share our expertise with NATE and its membership and set the stage for the future of healthcare, one in which the patient is truly 'front-and-center' and as informed and in-charge as possible."

About National Association for Trusted Exchange
The National Association for Trusted Exchange (NATE) brings the expertise of its membership and other stakeholders together to find common solutions that optimize the appropriate exchange of health information for greater gains in adoption and outcomes. Emerging from the Western States Consortium, a pilot project supported by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC), NATE was established as a not-for-profit organization in May 2013. Consistent with NATE's mission to address the legal, policy, and technical barriers that inhibit health information exchange between entities within a state and across states, NATE leads and participates in a number of ongoing and emerging projects in the HIE domain. NATE has been operating its own Trust Bundles in production since November 2012 and recently took over administration of the Blue Button Consumer Trust Bundles. Working with a broad set of stakeholders through multiple task forces, crowdsourcing and a call for public comment, NATE is proud to make available the first release of NATE's Blue Button for Consumers (NBB4C) Trust Bundle beginning in 2015. NATE will soon move into a new phase of development around Blue Button Trust Bundles. Stakeholders interested in participating in the next phase of NATE's work in consumer-mediated exchange should consider NATE membership or subscribe to news from NATE's PHR Community.
