Data Protection Veteran Oussama El-Hilali Joins Carbonite as Senior Vice President of Engineering
BOSTON, Aug. 31, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Carbonite, Inc. (NASDAQ: CARB), a leading provider of online backup solutions for consumers and small and medium sized businesses, today announced the appointment of Oussama El-Hilali as Senior Vice President of Engineering. With more than 20 years of experience in software development, data protection and data integrity, El-Hilali will build and manage the company's engineering organizations and will oversee new product development.

El-Hilali previously served as Vice President at Symantec for NetBackup™ Engineering, overseeing data protection and storage engineering. In this role, he was responsible for planning, development and release of Symantec's flagship NetBackup family of products to enable organizations to simplify information management while reducing data stores. He also successfully led the development and integration of the deduplication technology in NetBackup and other Symantec products.
Prior to this, El-Hilali was Director of Product Management at Veritas, where he helped enhance the company's data management products through product definition based on customer and partner interaction and technology acquisitions. Here, he led the product management team for NetBackup and helped set the disk backup strategy and initial disk option pricing for the organization. El-Hilali has also held senior consulting and software development roles at companies including Keane, Object Systems and Sanofi Diagnostics Pasteur.
El-Hilali holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Computer Science and Mathematics from Ripon College in Wisconsin and a Master of Science degree in Software Engineering from the University of Saint Thomas in Minnesota. Notably, he co-authored "Digital Data Integrity: The Evolution from Passive Protection to Active Management."
