CABLExpress® survey provides infographic with insight on trends such as next generation infrastructure, Fibre Channel, virtualization, cloud computing, and structured cabling
SYRACUSE, N.Y., Dec. 19, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- CABLExpress® has released the findings of its 2012 Data Center Executive Survey, which were compiled from feedback gathered at its annual Data Center Symposium held in September. The Symposium, hosted by CXtec® and TERACAI®, is a two-day event for IT executives to learn and discuss data center infrastructure best practices.

Survey results indicated that IT executives are most concerned with business continuance, disaster recovery and maximizing uptime (44 percent), as they look to designing their next-generation data center infrastructure. Other concerns included capital and operational expenses, IT agility, and security and compliance, ranked respectively.
"It is important to determine what the priorities are so we can evaluate and provide the best products for our customers," said Peter Belyea, president of CXtec and TERACAI. "The symposium allows us to gain insight about current and upcoming trends so we are better prepared to assist in the planning and implementation of next-gen data center infrastructure."
Results also revealed that 72 percent of attendees are looking forward to adopting some type of converged data center fabric, such as Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE). More than half plan on implementation within the next two years.
A majority of attendees (53 percent) do not currently follow the Telecommunications Infrastructure Standard for Data Centers, or TIA-942, which dictates that structured cabling is ideal for data centers to adjust to the changing needs of the industry.
"Structured cabling can significantly increase data center efficiency, which is a shared goal for all of us as we struggle with shrinking budgets and the demands of increased information flow," said Belyea. "These results indicate that there is still work to be done in regard to the application of these standards."
The Data Center Symposium was attended by professionals in the commercial, healthcare, education and financial sectors. Represented companies had an average size of 20,000 employees.
