Data Center Ethernet Switch 40 GE Sales Surge in 1Q16 on Strong Cloud Demand, According to Dell'Oro Group

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., June 10, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- According to a recent report by Dell'Oro Group, the trusted source for information about the telecommunications, networks, and data center IT industries, 40 GE sales in the Ethernet Switch – Data Center market surged in 1Q16, growing 40 percent year-over-year due to strong Cloud demand. Arista, Cisco, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Juniper, and white box sales all exceeded $40M in 40 GE revenue in the quarter. 100 GE adoption is expected to pick up by end of 2016.

"We anticipate the migration towards 100 GE will happen in the 2Q16/3Q16 timeframe with 40 GE declining significantly by 4Q16," said Alan Weckel, Vice President at Dell'Oro Group. "The market has not been able to acquire sufficient supplies of silicon for the server NIC, Top-of-Rack switches, and core switches in the first quarter of the year to make the transition happen earlier.
