WASHINGTON, Nov. 21, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The American Academy of Actuaries announced that Darryl Walter has joined the organization as its new director of membership today. In this role, Walter will lead the Academy's initiatives to enhance member value and benefits, and to expand membership to all qualified actuaries. The Academy is the one actuarial association that represents U.S. actuaries from all practice areas in its mission to serve the public and the U.S. actuarial profession. The Academy has over 17,500 members, and it is seeking the inclusion of all U.S. actuaries in its vital public policy and professionalism work.

"Darryl is a skilled and talented leader with deep expertise in both membership and marketing," said Mary Downs, executive director of the Academy. "He will be instrumental in enhancing and demonstrating the value of the MAAA credential," she added.
Walter joins the Academy after five years with The Wildlife Society, most recently as its chief of staff. Previously, he held marketing positions with the American Association for the Advancement of Science/Science Magazine, USA Today, and Special Olympics. Walter is an active volunteer in his community, and has presented at numerous association and marketing conferences.
Walter received his B.A. from Kent State University.
