Dr. Aaraj's presentation is titled Modern Crypto Systems and Practical Attacks, and will address modern security protocols and the importance of augmenting today's systems with the right cryptographic primitives.
In her address Dr. Aaraj will discuss practical attacks against cryptographic implementations and required counter measures that are typically not covered by theoretical cryptography and its corresponding security proofs and models. The talk will also address potential software and hardware co-design techniques to harden cryptographic implementations and prevent leakage of secret data.
The International Cryptographic Module Conference (ICMC) 2016 is taking place in Ottawa, Canada 18-20 May, and is a growing forum for global expertise in commercial cryptography. This is the conference's fourth annual edition, where industry leaders from more than 20 countries will convene to address the unique challenges faced by those who produce, use, and test cryptographic modules, with a strong focus on standards such as FIPS 140-2, ISO/IEC 19790, and common criteria.
The conference helps to foster a focused, organised community of users and covers the technical design problems to meet the standard, with a particular emphasis on the challenges posed as technology advances.
DarkMatter's participation in the event is geared towards showcasing its thought leadership while also assimilating information regarding the latest developments in cryptography and cryptographic implementations.
Commenting on DarkMatter's presence at the event in Ottawa, Faisal Al Bannai, Chief Executive Officer said, "We are part of a global cyber security community, and it is important to utilise platforms such as the ICMC to exchange pertinent information relating to industry developments. What is particularly encouraging is for DarkMatter, a company headquartered in the UAE, to have a subject matter expert who is considered a source of compelling industry insights, and will be addressing a global audience. I wish Dr. Najwa a successful, informative involvement in the conference."
Part of the agenda at the ICMC will include the review of technical topics underlying the implementation of a cryptographic module including physical security, key management, side-channel analysis, cryptographic algorithm implementation testing, standardisation, validation programmes and more.
Dr. Najwa Aaraj said, "DarkMatter has gained significant traction in the areas of cryptography, cryptographic implementations, and network protocols, and the Secure Voice and Chat application we introduced earlier this year is evidence of that. The ICMC is a great opportunity to interact with industry peers especially in light of one of DarkMatter's R&D centres being located in Canada. We are looking forward to the interaction, and to benchmarking our own efforts against other global cyber security leaders."
