Built on a Windows® CE operating system, DAP's M2000 packs 128 MB SDRAM and 1 GB flash ROM in a device measuring just 6 x 3 x 1.25 inches (155 x 82 x 31 mm) and weighing 13.4 oz (380 g). With ample memory for storing data locally, the rugged computer also communicates wirelessly via Summit Radio wireless LAN 802.11b/g, Bluetooth and the optional GPRS/EDGE. Additionally, it features a user-accessible SD slot and hot-swappable battery.
Ideally suited for use in field service, utility, transportation, logistics, parking enforcement and warehouse environments, DAP's M2000 is sealed to IP65 and is tested by independent labs to meet MIL-STD-F requirements. It is engineered to withstand multiple 1.5 meter (5 foot) drops to concrete and to operate at temperatures between -4 and 122 F (-20 and 50 C).
The M2000 series offers a 3.5" 256K color transflective LCD with touch screen and a choice between an alpha-numeric (M2010 model) and a full-alphabetical (M2020 model) backlit keyboard.
Customers can also choose a 1D laser or 1D/2D imager for barcode scanning, standard or high-capacity Li-ion battery packs, and optional integrated GPS.
High frequency (HF) or EPC Class1, Gen2 ultra-high frequency (UHF) RFID reader is available as a plug-in module, making the technology field-upgradable to accommodate future upgrades.
"With DAP's M2000, customers not only have choices at the time of purchase, they can add RFID modules as their needs change or technology advances," said Eric Miller, DAP's vice president.
Voice-ready, the M2000 also features four programmable function keys and runs on a Marvell® PXA270 520MHz processor.
"It may be small enough to put in your pocket, but the M2000 is a powerful and rugged computer," said Khalid Kidari, DAP's director of product management and marketing. "Equip it with an RFID reader and it can inventory an entire truck or pallet's passive or active RFID tags in seconds. Drop it on concrete and it still works. Exchange the battery for a fresh one and return to your application, without restarting or losing data."
