Daniel R. DiMicco Reappointed to Serve on United States Manufacturing Council
CHARLOTTE, N.C., Aug. 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Nucor Corporation (NYSE: NUE) Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Daniel R. DiMicco has been reappointed to serve on the United States Manufacturing Council. Mr. DiMicco has served on this board for the past two years, serving as a liaison between the federal government and the country's manufacturing sector.
The Manufacturing Council is comprised of 24 leaders of the domestic manufacturing sector who represent a broad cross section of U.S. industry. The Council advises the Secretary of Commerce on matters relating to manufacturing sector competitiveness and government policies and programs that affect U.S. manufacturers. The Council also works to ensure that the U.S. remains the preeminent destination for investment in manufacturing throughout the world.
Mr. DiMicco was selected because of his unflagging support of domestic manufacturing and his leadership on the issues for rules based free trade. He has served as an ambassador for the steel industry and whether he's addressing the members of Congress, the media or the President of the United States, Mr. DiMicco tells the same story and that story is the unvarnished truth.
A lunch and press conference was held today in honor of the designees, and United States Commerce Secretary Gary Locke praised the Manufacturing Council. "A vibrant manufacturing sector isn't just critical for the millions of Americans whose jobs depend on it," Locke said. "Manufacturing is absolutely central to driving the innovation that fuels the American economy."
Mr. DiMicco has been President and Chief Executive Officer of Nucor Corporation since 2000. He was elected Vice Chairman in 2001 and Chairman in 2006. Mr. DiMicco has held increasing roles in management since he joined Nucor in 1982. Prior to Nucor, Mr. DiMicco worked for Republic Steel Corporation after completing his Masters in Science Degree in Metallurgy and Materials Science from the University of Pennsylvania and his Bachelors of Science in Engineering, Metallurgy and Material Science from Brown University.
