Daniel E. Williams Receives SAE International 2012 L. Ray Buckendale Lecture Award
WARRENDALE, Pa., Nov. 8, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Daniel E. Williams, Chief Engineer of Advanced Engineering with TRW Automotive Commercial Steering Systems, has been named the winner of the 2012 L. Ray Buckendale Lecture Award from SAE International.
Williams received the award at the 2012 SAE International Commercial Vehicle Engineering Congress, held in Rosemont, Ill. Williams presented his technical paper, "Multi-Axle Vehicle Dynamics."
The award provides for an annual lecture dealing with automotive ground vehicles for either on- or off-road operation in either commercial or military service. The intent is to provide procedures and data useful in formulating solutions in commercial vehicle design, manufacture, operation, and maintenance.
L. Ray Buckendale, 1946 SAE President, by his character and work, endeared himself to all who were associated with him. Foremost among his many interests was the desire to develop the potential abilities in young people. To this end, the lecture is directed primarily to the needs of young engineers and students, with emphasis on practical aspects of the topic.

Williams has more than 25 years of experience in engineering and planning positions in passenger car suspension and commercial vehicle steering business units. He began his career joining a joint venture between Moog and Lotus to develop active suspension systems. That business was purchased by TRW.
He has published more than 55 papers and patents on various vehicle control systems, and is a Visiting Assistant Professor at Purdue University.
Williams received his bachelor's degree in engineering from the University of Illinois. He has master's degrees in engineering (University of Illinois); business (Florida Institute of Technology; history (Purdue University). He has a doctorate in mechanical engineering from Florida Tech.
He is a registered Professional Engineer and a member of Tau Beta Pi, Phi Kappa Phi, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and FarmHouse Fraternity. Dan has organized technical sessions for SAE and sits on various technical and standards committees, including the Truck and Bus Council. He has received the SAE Excellence in Oral Presentation Award and the Florida Tech Outstanding Alumni Achievement Award.
