Dana to Showcase Proven Spicer® Drivetrain Solutions for African Construction, Mining Markets at Inaugural Bauma Africa 2013
JOHANNESBURG, Sept. 16, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Dana Holding Corporation (NYSE: DAN) this week will demonstrate the company's longstanding commitment to the African construction and mining industries by presenting a complete range of integrated drivetrain solutions and aftermarket support at Bauma Africa 2013 in Stand No. H2.248.
Since acquiring Clark-Hurth Components in 1997, Dana has supplied complete high-quality, durable drivetrain solutions to local off-highway equipment manufacturers. Commonly known in the region as "Dana Spicer Clark-Hurth," Spicer® products are the exact same drivetrain products customers are accustomed to purchasing or receiving on imported machinery under the Clark-Hurth™ brand.
"As the economies of Africa continue to grow and thrive, Dana recognizes the need to drive progress here with quality drivetrain products backed by unparalleled aftermarket service," said Aziz Aghili, president of Dana Off-Highway Driveline Technologies. "We are fully leveraging the expertise we have gained in the global construction and mining industries to better support OEMs and equipment owners in this region."
At Bauma Africa, Dana will co-exhibit with BAE Systems Land Systems Gear Ratio (Gear Ratio), the company's distribution partner in Southern Africa for the past 25 years. Gear Ratio provides OEMs in this region with premier Spicer drivetrain systems and components to fit into existing applications for mining, construction, agriculture, material-handling, and forestry equipment.
Gear Ratio is also the only Authorized Spicer Off-Highway Service Center in Southern Africa, providing warranty repairs, product support, and spare parts distribution for both OEMs and the aftermarket.
Dana offers convenience to customers as the single source for drivetrain replacement parts and service under the Spicer® brand umbrella, which includes Clark™, Clark-Hurth, Sige™, Comaxle™, Kirkstall™, Spicer® GWB™, Spicer® Italcardano™, and Spicer® Ayra-Cardan™, as well as Victor Reinz® sealing products. Dana subjects all genuine Spicer service parts to superior metallurgy, hobbed and shaved gearing, precision heat-treating, and shot peening to ensure consistent quality and exceptional durability.
This week, Dana will present two axles used in mining and construction, including the new Spicer Model 133 with Posi-Stop™ brakes as well as Spicer Model 162/163 axles.
The Spicer Model 133 axle is designed for load haul dumpers (LHDs) with lifting capacities up to 3.5 tonnes (4 tons), scoops, and other medium-sized mining utility vehicles. It supplies reliable braking with Posi-Stop fail-safe service brakes, which include a brake wear measurement system and optional forced lubrication capabilities. The Model 133 axle provides excellent traction with a maximum output torque of 58,000 nM.
Designed specifically for 10- to 14-tonne (11- to 15-ton) wheeled excavators, Spicer Model 162/163 rigid planetary axles feature a maximum output torque of up to 53,000 nM. Low-speed hub brakes provide smoother operation and prevent jerking effect on wheels, while the unique brake design reduces parasitic power loss.
Dana will also promote proven powershift transmissions from 67 to 410 kW (90 to 550 hp), including the Spicer T20000 Series, 24000 Series, 32000 Series, and 36000 Series. These transmissions are engineered for a wide range of wheel loaders, rough terrain lift trucks, and other construction and mining machinery.
