Dallas' Kendall Law Group Representing Kay Jenkins in Collin Street Bakery Case
DALLAS, March 18, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Dallas-based Kendall Law Group, led by former federal judge Joe Kendall, is defending Kay Jenkins against claims of money laundering in the ongoing Collin Street Bakery case.
Ms. Jenkins is the estranged wife of Sandy Jenkins, who faces 10 counts of mail fraud and three counts of money laundering based on his prior work as controller at Collin Street Bakery. Ms. Jenkins voluntarily appeared in Dallas federal court today and pled not guilty to a federal indictment accusing her of conspiring with her husband in the alleged crime.
In addition to Mr. Kendall, Ms. Jenkins is represented by a Kendall Law Group team consisting of former U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Texas James Rolfe and former federal prosecutor Jody Rudman.
Ms. Jenkins previously requested that the FBI give her a polygraph examination to show that she had no knowledge of her husband's alleged embezzlement scheme, but that request was rejected by the government's lead prosecutor. Ms. Jenkins' attorneys were told by the prosecutor that she would be indicted regardless of whether she passed a polygraph test, Mr. Kendall says. In the same meeting, Mr. Kendall says his client's lawyers were told that the case against her is based entirely on circumstantial evidence.
"That means not a single witness will get on the stand and testify that Kay Jenkins knew about her husband's alleged embezzlement," says Ms. Rudman.
Ms. Jenkins attributes much of her wealth to an inheritance from her parents, something Mr. Kendall says prosecutors were told months before she was indicted.
"It is a matter of public record in State Court in Corsicana. She has her own money from a trust and inheritance that represents her separate property," says Mr. Kendall, who notes that the owners of Collin Street Bakery are sophisticated businesspeople and multimillionaires.
"The sophisticated business owners at Collin Street Bakery were fooled for eight and a half years, and so was Kay Jenkins," says Mr. Rolfe. "She is unfortunately not the first wife, nor probably the last, to be deceived about their family's financial situation."
