The DFW project, chosen from among nearly 750 construction-industry project submittals, was led by Balfour Beatty and the Jacobs Engineering Group. The collaborative general contractor and engineering teams renovated the 400,000 square-foot terminal, replacing aging infrastructure with new energy-efficient and reliable systems. The project also incorporated innovative passenger processing concepts to allow DFW and airlines to adapt to new technology and passenger demographics.
CH2M served as the mechanical engineer for the project, incorporating energy-saving and sustainable technologies into the design and construction, with a goal of reducing the terminal's overall energy consumption and operational costs. The CH2M designs were based on sustainability, redundancy, reliability, security and maintainability. The mechanical systems upgrade CH2M provided included replacement of more than 90 percent of the building's air handling and circulation equipment, hydronic and building controls systems, all of which was achieved while maintaining bustling flight and passenger operations.
