Dallas' Aldous Law Firm Earns Texas Verdicts Hall of Fame Induction

DALLAS, Dec. 13, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The Aldous Law Firm, founded by renowned Dallas trial lawyer Charla Aldous, recently was inducted into Texas Lawyer newspaper's Texas Verdicts Hall of Fame after winning a $9.3 million sexual abuse verdict against The Episcopal School of Dallas Inc.

In the 2011 case, John Doe, et al. v. The Episcopal School of Dallas Inc., Ms. Aldous represented the family of a teenage girl who was wrongly expelled from the school after administrators discovered that a teacher had involved the underage student in a sexual relationship. The verdict was the second-largest negligence verdict in Texas during 2011, according to the newspaper.

The firm was honored at a Nov. 12 dinner at the Ritz-Carlton, Dallas, and will be recognized in a special supplement published in an upcoming issue of Texas Lawyer.

"We are, of course, gratified to see our hard work recognized by our colleagues in the legal profession," Ms. Aldous says. "But the true reward is seeing justice prevail, and in this case, it did. Based on what my client experienced, she will never be the same, but at the very least, we can be fairly confident another young girl won't be similarly victimized there."

The Doe verdict included $8.6 million in compensatory damages and another $700,000 in punitive damages, which jurors assessed after finding that the school had been grossly negligent in handling the situation. Since the verdict was handed down, the parties entered into a confidential settlement resolving the litigation.

The Texas Verdicts Hall of Fame honor is only the most recent professional recognition of The Aldous Law Firm.
