Dade Medical College Supports the Arts in Homestead

MIAMI, May 16, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Dade Medical College is helping meet the needs of children's programs in Homestead, Florida by encouraging arts education through community service and integration, as well as the commissioning of a large-scale mural.

Dade Medical College has moved to make good on a promise to the late Stanley Levine, co-founder of ArtSouth in Homestead, and they will continue to support this terrific center that promotes art education.

With a donation of $10,000 during their 11th anniversary celebration on April 9, 2011, Dade Medical College became sponsors of this year's summer camp activities. ArtSouth hosts art classes, workshops, after-school programs and creative summer camps for kids in the community. More information about them is available at http://www.artsouthhomestead.org.

In keeping with the arts theme and as renovations to Dade Medical College's future campus at 107 N Krome Ave continue, the Children's Gallery and Art Center of Homestead(located next door at 55 N Krome Ave)has been commissioned to create a mural titled "The Arts & Science Connection." The original art work will be created by Carlos Franco and Cesar Beltran with the assistance of art students. The mural was inspired by Leonardo Da Vinci's Vitruvian Man, which is the central figure found in Dade Medical College's logo.

The mural will be painted on the southern wall of the building, which is built into the back patio of the gallery and art center, where recurring special art and music events are held. The original art piece aims to grow the partnership between the college and the arts center, as well as promote the importance of arts and science education.
