"Breast cancer is most common form of cancer in women and it is heartbreaking to know that it takes the lives of hundreds of thousands annually because, if caught in the early stages, it is very treatable," states Dade Medical College CEO Ernesto Perez. "That is why we are so committed to promoting awareness and preventative care on our campuses and in our community during this very special time of the year," he adds.
In addition to the donation of mammography screenings, Dade Medical College's website will be pink throughout October and feature online fundraising for the Susan G. Komen Miami / Fort Lauderdale affiliate. Also, the school is running billboard ads across Miami-Dade and Broward counties promoting breast cancer awareness and screening services at partner hospitals, and conducting an on-campus awareness initiative for students and staff.
Key community partners for this program are: Hialeah Hospital, Palmetto General Hospital, Coral Gables Hospital, Broward Hospitals/HCA, Mercy Hospital, Susan G. Komen Foundation Miami / Fort Lauderdale Affiliate, Process Pink / National Breast Cancer Foundation and Navarro Discount Pharmacy.
The month's activities kicked off Saturday, October 2, with a Pink Community Health Fair at Westland Mall and will follow with other key events such as: "Safe Screenings" at Navarro Discount Pharmacy (October 9 – Store # 2 and October 23 – Store # 8), a Pink Healthcare Mixer / Fundraiser on October 21 and a Pink Health Fair at the Hialeah Campus October 28.
