FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., May 21, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- After Hill Country Memorial (HCM) raised security concerns with its outdated surveillance system, D-Link worked with them on the installation of 46 indoor and outdoor IP cameras to provide a comprehensive campus-wide solution. The newly configured security setup helped the Texas-based, top-100 nationally ranked hospital gain visibility into all previous blind spots on the 130,000 square-foot campus. The installation included fixed and domed high-definition cameras as well as remote security monitoring software.
"Overall, we noticed we had some dead spots in the existing system coverage, and we also noticed there were many places we hadn't covered at all," said Doug Crenwelge, Safety Officer for HCM. "Our hospital's previous system was very old, and we simply needed a more complete and comprehensive solution."
To provide comprehensive coverage, the hospital recruited Preferred Technology Solutions to develop a state-of-the-art camera system that would extend security visibility and offer better resolution. D-Link's Full HD Fixed Dome IP Cameras (DCS-6113) feature 2 megapixel resolution and H.264 compression to ensure a high-quality live video feed, plus built-in infrared LED illuminators to provide clear night vision. The new system allows for remote monitoring, enabling Hill Country Memorial team members to access images and video on laptops and phones after hours – to make necessary decisions and take the needed action.
Thanks to excellent planning and tight collaboration with the hospital team, all 46 cameras and software were successfully installed within a week. Shortly after, a woman was caught on video stealing items from an unlocked car. The hospital team handed the footage over to law enforcement and she was later apprehended and convicted.
"Community law enforcement says we have the best surveillance camera system in town and agree that our picture and resolution quality is excellent," explained Crenwelge. "If someone reports an incident, we simply call it up and record it for archiving. It's easy to use and the zoom works great – you couldn't ask for anything better."
The Hill Country Memorial team has a very collaborative relationship with law enforcement, and the new surveillance system is helping increase safety and security for the whole community. Since the installation, the Hill Country Memorial team is often contacted by law enforcement about traffic collisions happening in front of the hospital, or about activity happening across the highway at the local High School. Crenwelge explained, "They can use our footage for investigations or to watch suspicious activity by students or people passing by."
D-Link IP cameras bring comprehensive visibility to small, medium and large businesses and provide affordable, high-quality surveillance to hospitals like Hill Country Memorial. Following the successful installation, Hill Country Memorial is considering options to add another 32 D-Link IP cameras to extend surveillance to off-campus buildings and additional parking lots.
