D-Backs Batter Up Against Hunger As Part Of June Dairy Month Celebration
June 1 game kicks off month-long celebration for the chance to win prizes and give back
PHOENIX, May 28, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Arizona Milk Producers, Shamrock Farms and Circle K are teaming up with the Arizona Diamondbacks to help kick off the "Daily Dose of Dairy" celebration, which includes the chance to win daily prizes, a grand prize and the opportunity to give back.
The "Daily Dose of Dairy" celebrates June Dairy Month and The Great American Milk Drive, a program that makes it easy to donate nutritious milk through Feeding America to those who need it most in our community. At the Sunday, June 1 game vs. the Reds, Shamrock Farms will donate 10 gallons of milk to St. Mary's Food Bank Alliance in honor of The Great American Milk Drive for every baseball hit or run scored by our hometown team, and for every homerun, the local dairy will donate 100 gallons of milk (up to 500 gallons total). In addition, Circle K has committed to matching Shamrock Farms' donations, for a possible total donation of up to 1,000 gallons.
"We serve thousands of people each year at St. Mary's Food Bank Alliance, but we aren't able to provide as many gallons of milk as we would like to provide to our clients' families," said Jerry Brown, director of public relations at St. Mary's Food Bank Alliance. "Most people don't realize how challenging it is to get milk into our food bank. Gaining access to the protein and nutrients in milk will have a major impact on our clients and their families."
Residents are encouraged to visit dairycouncilofaz.org from June 1 - 30 for the chance to win a daily prize, which includes a Shamrock Farms free dairy certificate, Shamrock Farms Farm Tour pass and Arizona Milk Producers prize. All entries are eligible to win the grand prize - a $250 grocery gift card and an Arizona Milk Producers prize. In addition to great prizes, the "Daily Dose of Dairy" giveaway also gives back. For every entry received, Shamrock Farms will donate a serving of milk to St. Mary's Food Bank Alliance.
Hungry families in Arizona and across the country are missing out on nutrient-rich milk because it's not typically donated to food banks, even though it's in high demand. The Great American Milk Drive is the first-ever national program that makes it easy for Americans to donate milk to food insecure families. Families can also help support The Great American Milk Drive by visiting www.milklife.com/give or by texting "Milk" to 27722, to donate much-needed milk for as little as $5.00. By entering your zip code online, you can ensure that the milk is delivered to a local Feeding America food bank in your community.
"We're proud to be part of this outstanding line up of corporate citizens stepping up to the plate on behalf of those in need," said Paul Rodriguez, Circle K Arizona Vice President. "St. Mary's Food Bank does important work that nourishes all who serve and are served by it. Milk builds strong bodies and on this day, a stronger community."
