Cymer Computer Clubhouse Opens at Mission Valley YMCA
San Diego-Based Tech Leader Partners with Local Community Organization to Provide Local Youth with Access to State-of-the-Art Technology
SAN DIEGO, Jan. 13, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Cymer, Inc. (Nasdaq: CYMI), the world's leading supplier of light sources used by chipmakers to create advanced semiconductor chips, today announced its sponsorship of the Cymer Computer Clubhouse, located at the Mission Valley YMCA. Part of the Intel Computer Clubhouse Network, the Cymer Computer Clubhouse will serve as an after-school outlet where local youth can tap into their passions and develop skills in a learning environment out-fitted with high-tech tools for mixing and editing music, developing video projects, creating art, and more.
The Cymer Computer Clubhouse, the first of its kind in San Diego, is part of Mission Valley YMCA's newly completed 22,000-square-foot capital improvement project which will offer healthy living studios and a multi-purpose community room for health fairs and senior programs. The new community resource officially opens later this month. The Cymer Computer Clubhouse features professional quality equipment provided by Cymer including a total of 16 computers, including HP desktop and Apple iMac computers loaded with the latest video editing and music studio software, digital video equipment, and a small music recording studio.
"Cymer is pleased to sponsor the very first computer clubhouse in the San Diego area. With the new center, local youth will have the essential tools needed to learn, grow, and thrive in a future career path," said Ed Brown, president and chief operating officer for Cymer. "We share the YMCA's passion and commitment to the community and through this valuable program, we are excited to help San Diego youth further develop the skills to prepare for possible careers using enabling technology."
According to Brown, Cymer conducted an extensive search of organizations throughout San Diego to find a partner to launch and operate San Diego County's first licensed Intel Computer Clubhouse. Mission Valley YMCA was selected due to its leadership and staff, history of growth, diversity of programs for youth and adults, and overall commitment to members and serving the San Diego community.
"We are thrilled that the Mission Valley YMCA was selected as the recipient of such generous support from Cymer, and honored to house the Computer Clubhouse location in San Diego," said Baron Herdelin-Doherty, president and CEO for YMCA of San Diego County. "This facility is sure to be an invaluable community asset and we look forward to officially opening the doors and watching the tools and resources benefit our members and community."
Mission Valley YMCA plans to unveil this groundbreaking new facility on Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011 at 10 a.m., 5505 Friars Road, San Diego, Calif. Festivities will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony, tour of the new Cymer Computer Clubhouse, and introductions by guest speakers, Mission Valley YMCA President and CEO Herdelin-Doherty, and Cymer President and Chief Operating Officer Ed Brown.
