Cydcor Helps High School Students Dress For Success
$25K in business attire donated to students at Pacifica High School's DECA program in Oxnard
AGOURA HILLS, Calif., April 22, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Cydcor, the recognized leader in outsourced face-to-face sales, surprised 33 high school students with new business attire and advice on dressing for success at Pacifica High School in Oxnard. The students are members of Developing Entrepreneurial and Corporate Assets (DECA) Academy of Business, a program designed to teach students about business, as well as job and life skills to prepare them for college or the workforce.
"This was a tremendous event to teach students how to make a great first impression," said Pacifica High School teacher Aaron Ferguson, who helped coordinate the surprise event. "It's a skill they can take with them as a valuable tool for the rest of their personal and professional lives."
Ten volunteers from Cydcor arrived well before school started on Friday, March 27 to set up three rolling garment racks with the donated clothing and accessories. The Cydcor team helped students in the DECA Academy select a professional outfit and dispensed advice on dressing for success in academics and in the business world.
"The students in Pacifica's DECA program are already on the path to success by being involved with the wonderful business academy," said Jeannie Finkel, chief people officer at Cydcor. "But many come from families that can't afford to provide them with professional business attire for job interviews, college entry interviews or school presentations. These business clothes and advice gives them more than something to wear, it's also a great boost of self-confidence knowing they are dressed like real professionals."
Team members at Cydcor's corporate office in Agoura Hills, Calif., held a business clothing drive in early March, donating gently used men's and women's business clothing, accessories, shoes and cash in anticipation of the DECA event. Tom James Company, the world's largest manufacturer and retailer of custom clothing, donated eight custom men's suits.
Cydcor and Tom James Company donated an estimated $25,000 in clothing and gift cards to the DECA students at Pacifica High School. Each student walked away with at least one complete business outfit, some with several options. Any clothing that was not claimed by current DECA students will stay at the high school to be used for any student who needs professional attire for job or college interviews.
In addition to the business clothing, students were taught how to properly tie a bow tie, tie or scarf. They also learned about bargain shopping for business attire, fabric choices, color, fit and care.
Added Finkel, "Cydcor is a company that helps other businesses succeed and our core values are based on helping team members reach their full potential. We're committed to giving back to the community and felt that the students at Pacifica High School represent some of the brightest futures. We are thrilled to help them on their path to success."
