CyberPatriot's Open Division Sets Stage for Round 3 of Competition
Exciting Education Initiative Promotes Cyber Responsibility Among Teens
ARLINGTON, Va., Jan. 3, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Fifty-one teams of high school students participating in CyberPatriot's Open Division will be competing Saturday, January 8, 2011, to determine who will be one step closer to obtaining the President's Cup.
CyberPatriot, an education initiative produced by the Air Force Association, is a one-of-a-kind cyber defense competition that provides students hands-on learning about cyber security while virtually competing against their peers. Teams are ranked according to how quickly and effectively they establish and maintain secure networks.
The two-track competition has teams registered nationwide from public, private, parochial and home schools in the Open Division while JROTC units of all Services and Civil Air Patrol squadrons fill the All Service Division. In all, more than 650 teams registered to participate in the competition.
"CyberPatriot continues to encourage cyber responsibility among today's youth in the form of this exciting competition," said Bernie Skoch, CyberPatriot Commissioner. "These students have worked really hard to get to where they are in the competition, and we wish them the best of luck in the upcoming challenge."
After Round 3, only 12 teams will be advancing to the finals, with an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C. and the chance to win the President's Cup and scholarship money.
CyberPatriot's Championship Round will take place March 31 to April 2 at the Gaylord National Convention Center in National Harbor, Maryland, just minutes from downtown Washington, D.C. This final competition will be held in conjunction with AFA's CyberFutures Conference and Technology Exposition.
CyberPatriot is presented by Northrop Grumman, with founding partners SAIC and the CIAS at the University of Texas-San Antonio. More information can be found on CyberPatriot at www.uscyberpatriot.org.
AFA is a 501(C)(3), nonprofit organization promoting public understanding of aerospace power and the pivotal role it plays in the security of the nation. AFA has over 200 chapters nationally and internationally representing 120,000 members.
