Cyber Center of Excellence to Host Keystone Cyber Security Event October 15
Department of Homeland Security and National Cyber Security Alliance key partners, Internet of Things and critical infrastructure topics discussed
SAN DIEGO, Oct. 8, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The San Diego Cyber Center of Excellence (CCOE) will host a National Cyber Security Awareness Month keystone event that will focus on critical infrastructure and the Internet of Things. The event will be held in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA).
Coinciding with the 11th year of National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM), the CCOE event will take place on Wednesday, October 15 at San Diego's Westin Emerald Plaza from 8:00 a.m. until noon (PDT). The panel discussion with security leaders will address key issues surrounding the Internet of Things and critical infrastructure. The event will begin with the keynote delivered by DHS and close with ESET North America's CEO Andrew Lee.
The first set of panelists will cover protecting critical infrastructure assets, one of our nation's highest cybersecurity priorities. Panelists will examine the current cyber risks impacting our infrastructure as well as some of the initiatives underway to protect critical infrastructure entities from attack. The second panel will focus on the Internet of Things (IoT), the ability of objects and devices to transfer data, which is changing the way we use technology and is one of the most compelling areas of growth in the digital world. The panel will examine what steps we should taking now, with IoT in its infancy, to create a safer more secure IoT ecosystem that will allow the public to fully benefit from what IoT has to offer.
"In our highly connected society, cybersecurity has evolved to become a critical business and consumer issue," said CCOE Co-Chair Kenneth Slaght. "The event demonstrates how committed CCOE is to strengthening the cybersecurity industry in our own backyard as well as educating those in our region."
The Cyber Center of Excellence (CCOE) is a public-private partnership dedicated to accelerating the regional economy by promoting alignment and collaboration within the Cyber community. It launched in March with powerfully diverse founding partners including the military, world-class academic institutions and private companies including ESET and QUALCOMM.
