Cyber Academy of South Carolina Welcomes Students for 2014-15 School Year
Statewide Virtual School Marks Second Year with Plans to Increase Student Access to 'Blended Learning' Environment
GREENVILLE, S.C., Aug. 11, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Cyber Academy of South Carolina (CASC), a full-time, tuition-free online public school for students residing across the state, will begin the 2014-2015 academic year on August 19, 2014. The program marks its second year of operation and is one of the fastest growing schools in South Carolina. CASC uses the award-winning K¹² curriculum to offer students in grades K-10 an exceptional learning experience, with plans to serve an additional grade level each year until reaching the full K–12 grade level offering. With support from state-certified teachers and an active school community, CASC offers an individualized learning approach to meet the needs of every student.
Students who enroll at CASC follow an academic program that includes engaging web-based lessons along with instructional materials – books, videos, CDs and other hands-on tools and resources – which are shipped directly to each student's home. CASC teachers provide instruction, guidance and support, and regularly interact with students and parents via email, web-based classrooms, online discussions, phone and face-to-face meetings. Teachers also organize numerous field trips and school activities where students have the opportunity to participate in events that blend academics and socialization.
CASC provides core courses in Language Arts, Math, Science, History, Music, Art and Physical Education, while the high school program includes a foreign language course and access to AP courses. Students can also choose to participate in a variety of extracurricular groups and clubs through CASC, as well as participate in their school district's extracurricular activities. This year, CASC teachers will offer community-based tutoring two Fridays each month to provide more face-to-face opportunities for families across the state.
"The individual student is the most important person in any school — traditional, charter, virtual, or private," said David Crook, Head of School at the Cyber Academy of South Carolina. "Students learn at different speeds and excel in different environments, so education can no longer be viewed as a "one-size-fits-all" solution. The individualized K¹² program gives South Carolina students the benefit of an educational experience tailored to his or her learning style."
CASC families can also take advantage of the School's Drop-In Learning Center, located in Greenville. The first of multiple planned regional Learning Centers, the Center offers students one-on-one engagement and small group tutoring to supplement their online work. Students can also receive assistance with their virtual lessons from certified CASC teachers. The Learning Center's classrooms are outfitted with interactive large screen monitors, laptops, Wi-Fi and K¹² course materials. The school is currently finalizing plans to open similar centers in Columbia and Beaufort.
Enrollment is still open for the CASC 2014-2015 academic school year, and all interested families are encouraged to visit www.k12.com/casc for more information, as well as details on upcoming community events and online information sessions.
