WOONSOCKET, R.I., Aug. 26, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- CVS/pharmacy is taking steps to prepare for Hurricane Irene which is expected to affect the East Coast over the weekend. Every effort is being made to fill prescriptions prior to the weekend, move generators into targeted areas and stock stores with hurricane preparedness items such as water, batteries, flashlights and other products to help in an emergency. CVS/pharmacy is also preparing to assist with hurricane recovery efforts in its communities, by planning for water and ice donation events at area-stores and keeping in close contact with the American Red Cross to offer support in affected areas as needed in the coming days and weeks.

"Given the weather advisories in effect for the weekend, CVS/pharmacy is taking steps to prepare our stores and assist our customers," said Scott Baker, Executive Vice President, Internal Operations and Real Estate for CVS/pharmacy.
When preparing for a hurricane, CVS/pharmacy offers customers the following tips: 1. Create a plan for evacuating and finding a safe destination. 2. Keep a written record of your current prescriptions with you at all times in a plastic container to keep it safe from damage. This is especially important if you take multiple prescriptions. 3. In the event of an emergency when you are away from home, find a pharmacy nearby to fill necessary prescriptions. CVS/pharmacy can fill its customers' prescriptions at any of its 7,300 locations nationwide. 4. Create an emergency kit before the storm hits and make sure you have all essentials in case of power outages. Go to your local CVS/pharmacy for all of the necessities in a hurricane kit including extra bottled water, masking tape and batteries.
