"CVS Caremark is committed to providing high quality mail pharmacy services because we recognize that mail is such an important dispensing mechanism in opening access and reducing costs in pharmacy care," said Jon Roberts, President of CVS Caremark's Pharmacy Benefit Management business. "Mail service pharmacy also helps us to encourage better medication adherence, which is a critical factor in helping patients on their path to better health."
Mail Service Pharmacy is generally used by patients who require maintenance medications for chronic conditions and receive their maintenance medications in dosages of 90 day supply. The URAC accreditation program for Mail Service Pharmacy evaluates organizational quality standards; customer service, communications, and disclosure standards; mail drug management standards and pharmacy operations standards.
"We applaud CVS Caremark on achieving URAC Mail Service Pharmacy accreditation," said William Vandervennet, URAC Chief Operating Officer. "In today's health care market, URAC accreditation provides a mark of distinction for organizations to demonstrate their commitment to quality health care."
URAC offers the only third-party, voluntary accreditation program of this scope for the pharmacy benefit management and prescription services industry. All standards were developed by URAC's Pharmacy Advisory Committee, which includes a wide range of stakeholders: employers, consumers, pharmacy consultants, health plans, retail pharmacy, pharmacy benefit management organizations, pharmacy professional organizations, labor, and large public purchasing groups.
