SUGAR LAND, Texas, Jan. 14, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- CVR Energy, Inc. (NYSE: CVI) today announced that John R. Walter will become the company's senior vice president, general counsel and secretary, effective immediately. Walter will also serve as senior vice president, general counsel and secretary for the general partner of CVR Energy's petroleum subsidiary, CVR Refining, LP (NYSE: CVRR), and for the general partner of its nitrogen fertilizer subsidiary, CVR Partners, LP (NYSE: UAN). He replaces Edmund S. Gross, who retired on Dec. 31, 2014.
Walter joined CVR Energy in 2008 as associate general counsel and later served as vice president, associate general counsel and assistant secretary.
In his new role, Walter will lead all corporate legal functions, as well as provide strategic counsel to all CVR Energy companies. He will also serve in the corporate secretary role.
"John has helped CVR Energy achieve many important milestones during his tenure with the company," said Chief Executive Officer Jack Lipinski. "His command of legal matters ranging from corporate governance and regulatory compliance to mergers and acquisitions will serve the company well now and in the future.

Prior to joining CVR Energy, Walter served as a corporate and transactional attorney for Kansas City, Missouri-based firms Stinson Morrison Hecker, LLP and Seigfreid, Bingham, Levy, Selzer & Gee, P.C. for a combined six years. During his time at both firms, he assisted clients with the negotiation and drafting of contracts, the acquisition or divestiture of businesses, corporate governance and regulatory compliance.
Walter received a bachelor's degree in psychology from Colorado State University and a Juris Doctor from the University of Kansas.
