FORT WORTH, Texas, June 11, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- US Airways, part of American Airlines Group, today announces the launch of its codeshare agreement with trans-Atlantic joint business partner Iberia, further enhancing its relationship with the carrier and providing customers increased access to major destinations throughout Spain and beyond.
The codeshare will launch in a phased approach and initially includes all of the two carriers' trans-Atlantic flights. The US Airways code will be placed on Iberia flights from Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami and New York (JFK) to Madrid. Customers traveling with Iberia will now be able to book codeshare travel on US Airways flights from 18 destinations in Europe to Charlotte and Philadelphia.
The remaining flights in the codeshare will provide customers increased access throughout Spain and Portugal by adding 16 destinations beyond Madrid including Alicante, Bilbao and Malaga. Iberia customers will also have more options when traveling to destinations throughout the United States via connecting flights from Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami and New York (JFK). Customers can expect to have access to all codeshare flights in the coming weeks.
"Extending our codeshare agreement with Iberia to include US Airways flights marks another step toward providing more convenient global travel options for our customers," said Kurt Stache, senior vice president – alliances and partnerships, American Airlines. "Through the strong relationship with our joint business partners, we are focused on delivering enhanced benefits for all of our customers while further strengthening our combined global network."
"This codeshare agreement will provide our customers with more travel options in the U.S. from our gateways," said Antonio Pimentel, director – alliances, Iberia. "At the end of the day that is what our joint business agreement for North Atlantic routes is about: offering our passengers more travel choices with a consistent service."
As part of this relationship, members of the US Airways Dividend Miles and Iberia Plus frequent flyer programs are able to earn and redeem miles on flights operated by the other carrier, providing another valuable benefit to customers. In addition, customers will be able to earn miles when traveling on codeshare flights operated by the other airline.
US Airways joined the Atlantic joint business with British Airways, Iberia and Finnair as an affiliate member earlier this year, and will remain as such until it fully integrates with American.
