Customers Bancorp, Inc. Announces up to 5% Share Repurchase Program
WYOMISSING, Pa., Nov. 26, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Customers Bancorp, Inc. (NASDAQ: CUBI), the parent company of Customers Bank (collectively referred to as "Customers"), today announced that its Board of Directors has authorized a stock repurchase plan in which it could acquire up to 5% of its current outstanding shares at prices not to exceed a 20% premium over the current book value. Customers reported 24.7 million shares outstanding and a book value of $15.75 per share at September 30, 2013.
"Customers has a strong and growing business with outstanding future prospects," said Chairman and CEO Jay Sidhu. "In the opinion of our Board and management, the company is worth considerably more than the current stock price. If we are correct in this opinion, these repurchases, along with continued above average growth in earnings and book value, will enhance value of Customers stock, benefiting all our shareholders."
Customers plans to use cash on hand to fund any repurchases and may repurchase shares in open market purchases or through privately negotiated transactions, at management's discretion. This program is expected to continue indefinitely and the amount of purchases will depend entirely upon the attractiveness of the investment, cash on hand or on the horizon and the degree of discount from management's estimates of intrinsic value of Customers Bancorp stock. The repurchase program may be suspended, modified or discontinued at any time, and the Company has no obligation to repurchase any amount of its common stock under the program.
