Curriculum Associates Launches New i-Ready® Lessons for Grades K-2
Early learners among more than 4.5 million students nationwide using the online program to improve outcomes in Reading and Mathematics
NORTH BILLERICA, Mass., Sept. 11, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Kicking off the 2017–18 school year, Curriculum Associates has recently added new i-Ready® lessons and user features to support early learners in Grades K–2. The online Reading and Mathematics program, which is being used by more than 4.5 million students across the country, now includes 75+ brand new phonological awareness and high-frequency word lessons for Grades K–2 as well as new login functionality for students in Grades K–1.
"We meet with educators every week to discuss ways to meet their evolving needs and those of their students with i-Ready," said Rob Waldron, CEO of Curriculum Associates. "Informed by these discussions along with extensive research on student engagement, we are thrilled to introduce new resources aimed at improving the experience and outcomes for our youngest learners."
The new lessons—focused on phonological awareness for Grades K–1 and high-frequency words for Grades K–2—are built in HTML5 and accessible on iPads®, Chromebooks™, and desktops. In the new lessons, students complete an activity, and the lesson responds dynamically to the results. Incorrect answers prompt targeted instruction to improve understanding, and correct answers bypass instruction and prompt deeper practice of that skill. By quickly assessing students' needs and guiding them to remedial instruction or practice when needed, the lessons ensure efficient use of students' computer time to maximize learning.
The new lessons, which were extensively tested by students and designed to maximize engagement, feature two curious aliens, Plory and Yoop, and their pet Snargg, who lead students on a learning expedition. These interactive, animated characters reinforce concepts in a fun, participatory way and guide students through research-based instruction that meets the rigor of the K–2 ELA standards.
The new i-Ready K–1 login was created in response to feedback that younger students who are still learning to read struggle with entering traditional usernames and passwords. The new login offers schools and districts the option of using a simplified sign-on experience for the youngest learners, saving valuable time in the classroom. With the new login method, teachers distribute cards that show everything a student needs to sign in: a student's personal icon and nickname, a class number, and a pin code comprised of three unique pictures. This simpler method allows students to securely log in to the platform independently in a more timely and intuitive manner.
