CURE Magazine's Illustrated Guide to Cancer Wins Two Categories in min Magazine's 2010 Editorial and Design Awards
One-of-a-kind teaching tool for oncology professionals takes first-place in 'Custom Publication Design' and 'Special Supplement' categories
DALLAS, Dec. 1, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- CURE Media Group, publishers of award-winning CURE magazine, took home two first-place titles for its most recent book, CURE's Illustrated Guide to Cancer, during min magazine's 2010 Editorial and Design Awards luncheon on Nov. 8, 2010, in New York City. The annual awards competition recognized excellence in content and design among consumer, business-to-business and specialized information media brands. These awards mark the first time that CURE's Illustrated Guide to Cancer, a unique educational product intended for use by oncology professionals, has been recognized within the publishing landscape.
In the category of "Custom Publication Design," CURE Media Group competed against publishers like MSP Communications who produced Delta Air Lines' Sky September 2009 Issue and UBM TechWeb and CA Technologies who published Smart Enterprise: Cloud Interface Officer. In the category for "Special Supplement," CURE's Illustrated Guide to Cancer tied for first place with a publication by Budget Travel and beat other supplements by FamilyFun and Harper's Bazaar.
CURE's Illustrated Guide to Cancer stood out among the competition in both categories with min dubbing it "one of the most ambitious and editorially rich custom publishing projects in recent years." Judges for the competition described the "lushly illustrated and well-written" book as "at once an atlas, a map and a storybook" that "services the medical professional by empowering them with information." Accolades from min even went as far as to say that "there are few better examples of a publishing project that so directly helps the reader do his/her job better."
"CURE's Illustrated Guide to Cancer presents a unique opportunity for us to showcase our highly-acclaimed medical illustrations as a teaching tool," said Lena Huang, managing editor of CURE's book division. "It represents an opportunity to explore cancer in a visual context and to help health care providers better explain cancer—from diagnosis to treatment—to their patients."
Just days after the winners were announced for the min awards, CURE received three nominations in FOLIO magazine's prestigious 2010 Eddie and Ozzie Awards. The Winter 2009 issue of CURE is a finalist in the category of "Best Cover" for consumer magazines with a circulation over 250,000. Other finalists in the category include Harper's Bazaar and Sports Illustrated. Additionally, CURE's Spring 2010 issue was nominated for "Best Full Issue" for a consumer health/fitness magazine, and CURE's website, www.curetoday.com, was nominated for "Best Consumer Health/Fitness Website." These three award nominations bring CURE's total award recognition for 2010 to seven nominations. FOLIO Eddie and Ozzie award winners will be announced on Jan. 13, 2011 at a reception in New York City.
