CultureSource Leadership Transition Begins: Lynne Friman Confirmed as Acting Director
DETROIT, Dec. 2, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- CultureSource's board of directors has confirmed Lynne Friman as Acting Director to replace Maud Lyon, Executive Director, who leaves to become President and CEO for the Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance in 2015.
"Ms. Friman is the ideal person to lead CultureSource through this transition," says Rich Homberg, chair of the CultureSource Board of Directors. "As the leader of numerous strategic projects, Lynne's successes include bringing more than $600,000 to nonprofit arts and culture organizations, increased membership for CultureSource, and she was the chief architect of the highly successful IXITI.com, the area's leading resource for the arts and entertainment industry. Lynne was a unanimous choice of the Board of Directors."
In December, the CultureSource Search Committee will begin to work with Cyd Kinney of the executive search firm DHR International to find a permanent replacement. Under Friman's leadership, CultureSource will continue to serve as the region's primary advocate for arts and culture and to promote public awareness of arts and culture programs through IXITI.com. In 2015, CultureSource is expanding professional development opportunities to build the capacity of organizations and the skill of professionals in the sector.
"Friman has demonstrated her leadership both in arts organizations and in the community. Lynne has led all of our most important projects since 2010," Lyon says. "I am confident that she will continue CultureSource's momentum and provide excellent service to the nonprofit arts and culture organizations that we serve. Her work is also supported by our excellent team. I know I am leaving CultureSource in extremely capable hands."
Friman has contributed to arts and culture in metro Detroit for 27 years in a wide range of roles. Friman has extensive experience working with large, mid-sized and small organizations on arts management, strategic planning, project development, museum development, and exhibition design. She organized collaborations and projects with community arts organizations, universities, museums, theatres and corporations. Her clients have included the Detroit Institute of Arts, the University of Michigan Museum of Art, and many smaller organizations.
Friman led the Economic Development section of the Washtenaw County Cultural Plan for the Arts Alliance. As Board Chair, she led the Arts Alliance through an executive leadership transition that resulted in an efficient cost-sharing operations model with Artrain. She continues to be active in the Washtenaw County Cultural Leaders Forum; is past chair of the Saline Arts & Cultural Committee; and chaired Pittsfield Township's first Cultural Planning Process; serves on boards for the Henry Ford Community College and University of Detroit-Mercy. Earlier in her career, she worked in national professional networks as President of the National Association of Museum Exhibition (NAME) in a critical time when it was re-defining its relationship to the American Association of Museums (AAM), and at that time was also an AAM Board Member.
