Cucalorus Film Festival and Connect Conference - Full Schedule released, featuring World Premieres, Indie Favorites, and Innovative Speakers
WILMINGTON, N.C., Oct. 27, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The 22nd annual Cucalorus Film Festival and Connect Conference takes over the historic streets of downtown Wilmington, NC, November 9-13th, 2016 for a weekend full of international cinema, innovation and celebration. Fresh from their premieres at Sundance, SXSW and Tribeca, films like Tim Sutton's Dark Night, Ingrid Jungermann's Women Who Kill, and Keith Maitland's TOWER screen at Thalian Hall. New features like Sarah Aldina Smith's Buster's Mal Heart, Amber Sealey's No Light No Land Anywhere, and Sophia Takal's Always Shine are among the half of all festival films that are produced and directed by women. The 20 documentary features rocking the line-up include Carrie Schrader's The Founders, Hilary Linder's Indivisible, Cynthia Wade and Cheryl Miller Houser's Generation Startup, and Maya Zinshtein's US-debut Forever Pure. Tickets are only $10 and can be bought the day of the screening at the venue box office or online in advance.
Short films are in themed-blocks - comedy, dance, doc, animation - with fun names like Cuddlefish and Bumphead. Lumpsucker Shorts and features like Cucalorus' opening film Seoul Station from Sang-Ho Yeon, and Nicolas Pesce's The Eyes of My Mother are among Convulsions selections for fans of the dark and bizarre curated by Aaron Hillis.
Bridging the gap between technology and creativity, Cucalorus Connect draws investors, inventors, and startups together for panels and workshops covering marine biotech, crowdfunding, social entrepreneurship, and more. Presented in part by the UNCW Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and tekMountain, Connect features big names in the startup ecosystem like Louis Foreman (CEO, Edison Nation), Brett Martin (CEO, CastleBranch), Stanfield Gray (Dig South), and Eva Doss (The Launch Place). The annual 10x10 Challenge matches ten filmmakers with ten entrepreneurs to make a promo video in five days. The new "Blind Elephant in the Room" series of closed-door sessions will spark conversations on topics from Women in Film to Entrepreneurship.
Breaking the traditional festival model, Cucalorus shakes things up with Dance-a-lorus, Visual/Sound/Walls (music video party), the Bus to Lumberton (David Lynch installation), Cuctails (cocktail workshops), and an extensive Virtual Reality lineup.
