SAN DIEGO, Oct. 24, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Cubic Corporation (NYSE:CUB) today announced that its Cubic Transportation Systems (CTS) business division has been awarded the "Business App of the Year Award" for its Cubic Mobile Suite, developed for personal mobility, retail merchants and transit agency inspectors. Hosted by the Mobile Breakthrough Awards, the Business App Award is one of several categories recognizing the top companies, products, innovation and people in the mobile and wireless industries today.
"We are incredibly honored to receive this award for what is the first mobile solution to extend into every aspect of an agency's operation," said Matt Cole, president, CTS. "To date, most transit mobile apps have solely focused on improving the traveler experience. The Cubic Mobile Suite not only provides an excellent traveler experience, it is also a portable, fully integrated ecosystem of tools and functionalities packed into three powerful apps, including mobile analytics that allow transportation agencies to gather customer insights, improve operations and customer service."
The Cubic Mobile Suite is comprised of three apps – a customer-branded Traveler App; Inspection App for agency staff; and Merchant App, which offers access to the agency's retail network where travel products are sold.
- Traveler App: accepts the latest online payment options, such as Visa and Apple Pay, bringing payment innovation and convenience to passengers. It can also turn any device into a ticket through barcode and Near Field Communication (NFC) technology and provides full account management functionality and trip planning.
- Inspection App: enables staff to check the validity of a rider's ticket, issue fines, validate e-tickets and sell product and value on the go. The app works with any Android-based mobile device, meaning no more heavy lifting for the transit employee accustomed to heavy, custom-built devices and a much lower cost of deployment for the agency.
- Merchant App: empowers agencies to form cross-selling partnerships with local vendors and increases the number of locations where travelers can purchase products. Travelers can purchase products quickly and conveniently, enabling agencies to attract new customers and build a community of support for an improved traveler experience. The app works with all NFC- and Bluetooth-enabled Android devices and is easy to maintain through automated updates.
"CTS is delivering a compelling full-scale mobility solution for the transportation industry in a unique way with their Cubic Mobile Suite," said James Johnson, managing director, Mobile Breakthrough. "We are thrilled to recognize CTS for their ingenuity with the Cubic Mobile Suite and we congratulate the entire team on their well-deserved 2018 Mobile Breakthrough Award for mobile innovation."
"With 61 percent of U.S. transit agencies, by ridership, committed to our mobile solutions, we expect mobile payments to be a significant proportion of transportation payments by as early as 2020," concluded Cole.
