SAN DIEGO, Aug. 31, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Cubic Transportation Systems (CTS), a business unit of Cubic Corporation (NYSE:CUB), today announced that Niosha Kayhani, research and development engineer at the Cubic Innovation Centre in London, will present on the company's gateless gateline prototype system, including the use of biometric technology for fare validation, at the 23rd International Conference on Urban Transportation and the Environment in Rome, Italy, from September 5–7. Attracting a wide international audience of delegates, the conference covers a variety of topics that highlight the need to establish integrated strategies for the complex interaction of urban transport systems and city environments.
The gateless gateline proof of concept underway at CTS integrates future ticketing technologies, such as palm vein scanning and facial recognition, to support a doubled rate of passenger throughput. Partially funded by a grant from the U.K.'s Railway Standards and Safety Board, the fast-track entry system is designed to meet a projected doubling in the number of passenger rail journeys over the next 30 years.
"The ability to scale biometric technology in mass transit is a key element in enabling a seamless experience in fare vending, validation and revenue collection," said Kayhani. "It allows our customers to provide their riders with the option to register with the system and provide tailored and improved services for passengers, while collecting advanced data to prevent revenue loss through fare evasion."
Kayhani will present his paper entitled, "Scalable Biometric Travel Token without Barriers to Access" on:
- Tuesday, Sept. 5, 4:50 p.m. (local time); University of Rome, "La Sapienza," Via Eudossiana, Rome, Italy.
Kayhani's paper will also be published in an upcoming issue of International Journal of Transport Development and Integration. Follow Cubic Transportation Systems at @CubicTS or use the hashtag #ut17 to join the social conversation.
