CUB News Conference To Highlight Triple-Digit Winter Savings for Northern Illinois Gas Customers
CHICAGO, Jan. 13, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Citizens Utility Board (CUB) will hold a news conference Monday to release an analysis showing how natural gas market conditions that haven't been seen in years combined with simple energy-efficiency actions at home could give consumers accustomed to harsh Windy City winters a rare surprise: triple-digit savings this cold season. Expanding the potential savings across northern Illinois means consumers who heat their homes with natural gas could cut their utility bills by a total of $485 million, easily wiping out a recent $60 million rate hike granted to Peoples Gas. CUB will announce the findings and simple steps people can use to cut their bills at a news conference held on what is typically Chicago's coldest day of the year:
10 a.m., Monday, January 16
CUB Headquarters
309 W. Washington St., Suite 800
Chicago
CUB's analysis will highlight data from the Energy Information Administration's "Short-Term Energy Outlook" report, and CUBEnergySaver.com, a free, state-of-the-art online tool that uses hundreds of energy-saving actions to help households cut their utility bills. The service also rewards users with shopping discounts if they achieve energy savings.
CUB is Illinois' leading nonprofit utility watchdog organization. Created by the Illinois Legislature, CUB opened its doors in 1984 to represent the interests of residential and small-business utility customers. Since then, CUB has helped save consumers more than $10 billion by blocking rate hikes and securing refunds.
