CUB, AARP Illinois To Hold News Conference Alerting Natural Gas Customers To $3 Billion 'Gas Tax' Legislation
CHICAGO, March 25, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- AARP Illinois and the Citizens Utility Board (CUB) will launch a statewide campaign to alert natural gas customers about little-known legislation that would wipe out consumer protections, weaken the Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC), and mandate what amounts to a 10-year "gas tax" of up to $3 billion on Chicago customers.
The news conference is:
10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 26
CUB Headquarters
309 West Washington St., Suite 800
Chicago
Bob Gallo, AARP Illinois State Director, and CUB Executive Director David Kolata will release an analysis showing how Senate Bill 1665/House Bill 2414 would potentially impact customers of Peoples Gas, North Shore Gas and Ameren. They also will announce the opening of an online center that makes it easy for consumers to contact their state legislators to oppose the bill.
CUB is Illinois' leading nonprofit utility watchdog organization. Created by the Illinois Legislature, CUB opened its doors in 1984 to represent the interests of residential and small-business utility customers. Since then, CUB has helped save consumers more than $10 billion by blocking rate hikes and securing refunds.
