"CTIA applauds the FCC for their decision to move forward with a pilot program to permit E-Rate funding to be used to support mobile wireless broadband for educational purposes, either in or outside of the classroom. They clearly recognize the rapidly-growing importance of mobile broadband services in education. By having access to a wide variety of applications and the ability to use the mobile Internet anytime and anywhere, a student's learning potential and educational performance can be substantially improved. Wireless products and services offer a flexible and personalized educational experience to maximize a student's ability to learn and help an educator teach from any location. We look forward to working with the FCC to ensure that this program is a success for students, educators, the Commission and the wireless industry.
"We also appreciate the FCC's efforts to address E-911. Since consumers are increasingly using their mobile phones to make emergency calls, wireless carriers take the need to provide our nation's 911 centers and Public Safety first responders with accurate caller location information very seriously. Today's Further Notice of Proposed Rulemaking and Notice of Inquiry properly recognize that there is much work to be done. CTIA remains committed to working with the industry, Public Safety and the FCC to advance wireless E911 issues."
