"Since the first 'Wireless World Travel Week,' more carriers have taken steps to empower consumers by introducing new – or enhancing existing – tools and resources for customers to ensure the best international calling, texting and mobile Internet experience possible. Thanks to the vibrant wireless ecosystem, several third party apps – many of them free – are available to consumers to track voice minutes, data or text messages.
"When traveling internationally, CTIA recommends consumers follow three simple steps when preparing to travel abroad: (1) contact their service provider to verify that their phone is technically capable of providing service where they are going; (2) contact their service provider to review the rates, in advance, under their current plan for the specific country to which they are travelling and consider whether to add an international service plan for voice, text messaging or data; (3) write down their service provider's international customer care number in case questions arise while travelling.
"Thanks to the innovation throughout the U.S. wireless industry's ecosystem, Americans have a variety of carrier plans, apps and tools to choose from to help them manage their voice, text and data usage."
