WASHINGTON, Jan. 22, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- CTIA-The Wireless Association® announced several new staff positions, effective today, in The Wireless Foundation and as well as CTIA's External and State Affairs and Wireless Internet Development departments.

Athena Polydorou has been appointed Executive Director of The Wireless Foundation. The mission of The Wireless Foundation is to highlight wireless technology's role in enhancing America's communities. Its programs foster wireless safety and responsible use, educate children, parents and teachers on the benefits of wireless technologies and use connected health to promote healthy babies, mothers and communities. Formerly a director in CTIA's Wireless Internet Development department, Athena was responsible for its privacy and connected health initiatives.
The new Wireless Internet Development director is Jackie McCarthy, who will be responsible for continuing the department's work in privacy, mobile financial services and connected health, as well as overseeing action teams working on solutions to specific industry issues. Jackie previously was the director of state regulatory affairs in CTIA's External and State Affairs department.
In the External and State Affairs department, Matthew Gerst has been promoted from counsel to director. Matt will continue to lead the association's efforts before state regulators and other state public policymakers and officials on a variety of policy matters, including universal service, wireless network deployment and resiliency and consumer protection and outreach to the accessibility and disability, public safety and online safety communities.
