CSX, Wayne Farms awarded prestigious 2017 Argus Win-Win
HOUSTON, May 24, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Global energy and commodity price reporting agency Argus has named US rail shipper CSX and poultry producer Wayne Farms LLC as the 2017 recipients of its prestigious Win-Win Award.
The 20th annual Win-Win Award was presented today at the North American Rail Shippers Association conference in San Francisco in front of nearly 400 representatives of railroad operators and their customers.
The Argus Win-Win Award recognizes innovation and co-operation amid the sometimes challenging business dynamics between carriers and shippers. It is given to railroads, shippers and organizations that develop innovative partnerships leading to improved service, efficiency and other mutually beneficial improvements.
The enhanced visibility, competitive pricing and consistent service provided by CSX helped provide Wayne Farms with the confidence to streamline its operations in south Alabama and expand its poultry production through a new 25,000 short ton/week feed mill in Ozark, Alabama. CSX industrial development, engineering and marketing staff worked closely with Wayne Farms from the initial site search to completion of construction.
"Our partnership with CSX has always been a mutually advantageous alliance. We value their experience, counsel and commitment to customer service," Wayne Farms director of feed ingredient procurement Glenn Smith said.
The Ozark mill was designed to consolidate the production of three other feed mills in order to take advantage of feed conversion opportunities as well as storage and railcar volume challenges at the other mills. CSX helped Wayne Farms design the switching and track capacity layout so that it would enhance efficiency and reduce dwell time.
"The collaboration with Wayne Farms is a great example of the type of partnerships we are striving to develop to drive efficiencies and deliver results for our customers and CSX," said Tim McNulty, vice-president, agricultural and mineral products for CSX. Recipients of the Argus Win-Win Award demonstrate the very best practices in the industry, Argus Media chairman and chief executive Adrian Binks said. "We congratulate CSX and Wayne Farms on this successful venture and on the spirit of innovation and excellence it shows."
Launched in 1998 by Argus Rail Business, the annual award is now in its 20th year and celebrates partnerships between rail carriers and customers resulting in significant cost or service benefits. The latest award recognizes both companies for establishing a partnership that allows the shipper to increase the reach of its sales through rail transportation, and the railroad for expanding its service and adding volume at the same time.
