SAN MARCOS, Calif., Feb. 12, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Extended Learning at California State University San Marcos (CSUSM) is excited to announce a new course, "Survey of Water Management in Southern California." The course was developed in collaboration with local industry leaders and incorporates the study of regional water usage and sources, disposal and recycling, water infrastructure, impact of water shortage as well as career opportunities in water management. Consisting of 8 three-hour evening lectures by local water experts and two Saturday tours of local state-of-the-art water facilities, the program culminates with a Practicum Research Project that allows students to work with a local water organization to address a current problem or issue.

"Given the current and historical water crises we have faced in California, and the paucity of relevant water management training programs, we believe this program will help fill a critical regional need," said Mike Schroder, Dean of Extended Learning at CSUSM. "We have intentionally developed the curriculum to incorporate theory history and applied learning so participants have the foundation needed to begin to effectively address some of the vexing water management issues we face."
The survey program is a precursor to a Water Resources Management Certificate that will be offered beginning fall semester. The initial survey course will be offered at the San Marcos campus on Tuesday evenings beginning March 18 from 6:30-9:30 pm. To register or to learn more about the Water Management Program or the Survey Course, please contact Alan Styles at [email protected] or visit www.csusm.edu/el/courses/waterprograms1.html.
