Crunchy Data Solutions Announces Docker-Based PostgreSQL Manager to Build, Administer and Monitor PostgreSQL Clusters
CHARLESTON, S.C. and WASHINGTON, Sept. 10, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Crunchy Data Solutions, Inc., a fast-growing provider of open source technology and support for PostgreSQL, today announced a private beta for a new solution called Crunchy PostgreSQL Manager. Based on Docker containers, Crunchy PostgreSQL Manager enables enterprises to build, administer and monitor both stand-alone PostgreSQL instances and high-availability PostgreSQL clusters.
Crunchy PostgreSQL Manager evolves Crunchy's High Availability PostgreSQL Cartridge for Red Hat* OpenShift Enterprise, and has been developed in anticipation of the release of OpenShift Enterprise version 3.0. Following the announcement that Red Hat, Inc. and Docker, Inc. would collaborate on next-generation Linux containers, Crunchy set out to build a new PostgreSQL high-availability cluster-management tool, one that leverages the power of both Red Hat's cloud platforms and the Docker container technology.
Crunchy Co-Founder Paul Laurence said: "Crunchy PostgreSQL Manager is further evidence of the growing value and maturity of the Platform-as-a-Service ecosystem. Crunchy PostgreSQL Manager leverages the exciting new capabilities of Docker and Red Hat to provide new cluster-building and management capabilities to enterprise PostgreSQL users. We are proud to continue to partner with the Red Hat OpenShift team to bring this capability to the many enterprises enjoying the benefits of open source."
Jeff McCormick, Crunchy Data Solutions Architect and technical lead for the project, added: "Crunchy PostgreSQL Manager enhances Crunchy's High Availability PostgreSQL Cartridge, combining high-availability cluster building capabilities with additional PostgreSQL management and monitoring capability. When combined with OpenShift Enterprise, Crunchy PostgreSQL Manager will enable enterprise PostgreSQL users to rapidly build scalable applications on top of complex PostgreSQL clusters, all managed through a simple web-browser-hosted interface."
Enterprises interested in participating in the Crunchy PostgreSQL Manager beta are encouraged to contact Crunchy at [email protected].
Crunchy's mission is to bring open source PostgreSQL to enterprises needing secure and high-performance data management, including U.S. Government agencies. Intense federal budget pressures have led many agencies, including the U.S. Department of Defense and U.S. General Services Administration (GSA), to turn to reliable, cost-effective open-source database options, with PostgreSQL being among the most common.
