The crucifix is covered in gold leaf with medieval swords creating the radiant glow behind Jesus. At the foot of the statue, Mary Magdalene is reaching up to Jesus as he lovingly gazes down on her. The gold image is stained with red paint depicting the blood of Jesus and his passion and sacrifice.
Los Angeles artists have for decades created and imaged the Crucifixion of Christ on our streets, businesses and churches. The symbolism and story of the crucifixion is even more relevant today for Los Angeles and the world.
