Crowell & Moring Expands Corporate And Energy Groups With Seasoned Partner Baird Fogel
WASHINGTON, March 11, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Crowell & Moring LLP is pleased to announce the addition of partner Baird D. Fogel to the firm's Corporate and Energy groups. Fogel joins from Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP, where he was a member of the firm's Global Project Finance Practice.
"Baird adds to our tremendous national and international transactional skills, particularly in the alternative energy space where he brings significant experience advising clients on small- and large-scale utility projects in the solar industry. Our clients, including emerging companies and investors, are looking for a problem solver, the kind of practical advisor who can tell them what's coming next and how best to manage it. With Baird's deep in-house counsel and industry experience, our clients will get that at the highest level," said James R. Stuart, chair of Crowell & Moring's Corporate Group.
In addition to his most recent role in private practice, Fogel formerly served in-house as the general counsel of BP Solar, as well as general counsel to a subsidiary of GE Transportation. In those roles, he managed all legal matters ranging from developing and implementing global strategy for the development of solar and transportation projects, manufacturing and sales, to establishing joint ventures, and handling domestic and international litigation matters. Fogel was also the chief compliance and ethics officer at both subsidiaries for BP and GE.
A corporate securities, mergers and acquisitions, and energy attorney, Fogel will advise clients in the areas of energy project development, project construction, project finance, commercial law, commercial settlements, compliance, contract negotiations, corporate governance, international project finance, and general corporate law, with an emphasis on solar energy projects. He has extensive experience working in all facets of the solar industry, including manufacturing, supply chain, distribution, construction, residential, commercial, small-scale utility, large-scale utility, government relations, and investment and finance. Fogel has worked with clients on transactions and energy projects across the United States, Europe, China, India, South America, and Africa.
"Crowell & Moring's remarkable pool of energy and transactional experience is of great benefit to my clients, and I am especially pleased to be part of a firm that has institutionalized the values of teamwork and client service in such a unique way. The firm offers an impressive platform, and I look forward to helping clients seamlessly complete their transactions, effectively manage regulatory risk, strategically enhance their internal controls, and successfully address and resolve their regulatory concerns," said Fogel.
Fogel received his B.A. from Vanderbilt University and earned his J.D. from the University of Missouri, Kansas City.
